The Whitney Detroit Micro Wedding | Stephanie & Nate

micro wedding at the whitney in detroitI first met Stephanie back in 2018 when our kids went to Ross Preschool together. 7 years and multiple family sessions later, I was thrilled when she approached us to photographer her micro wedding at The Whitney in Detroit. Stephanie and Nate had a small wedding on April 12, 2025. Since it was both of their second weddings, the important parts for them was bringing both sides of their family together to witness their ceremony, and hosting just a very elegant yet casual dinner party to celebrate their new lives together.

Going into The Whitney is like stepping into a piece of Detroit history. It’s a truly stunning mansion right in the heart of Midtown Detroit. Back in 1894, it was built with a whole lot of love (and lumber money!) by David Whitney Jr. for his wife, Flora. This place is seriously impressive – think gorgeous pink stone, tons of rooms to get lost in, and these incredible stained-glass windows that are like little works of art.

It’s got a fun past too. After the family moved out, it even became a spot for doctors to hang out. But now? It’s been brought back to life as this amazing restaurant that just oozes elegance. You can really feel the history as you walk through it, making it a pretty special and memorable place to start married life. This ole time elegance and charm really spoke to them, and they wanted to embrace the history of the location. Not to mention the food was out-of-this-world good.

Their ceremony was located at The White House Wedding Chapel in Warren. This spot is tucked away in Warren, Michigan, and the White House Wedding Chapel is a real gem with a cool story, too. This elegant white mansion, a local landmark since it was built back in 1943, was actually a private home for decades, with only two owners! Everyone around town just called it “The White House,” so the new owners kept the name when they turned it into a beautiful wedding spot. Think classic Southern charm with its big porch and gardens.

Stephanie and Nate had a quick ceremony, surrounded by their close family and their 4 kids. We did the bulk of their family photos at the wedding venue, and then headed downtown for their couple portraits at The Whitney. We hope you enjoy this small preview into their micro wedding at The Whitney in Detroit. We love photographing micro weddings and elopements because it really gives us the opportunity to witness and capture all the love and emotion, in a smaller and more intimate setting. We have some select dates in 2025 available still, and are also now booking into 2026. Please feel free to contact us to inquire about your date.
