On the most beautiful summer in Michigan day (August 3rd,) Lauren and Alex got married and chose us to photograph their wedding at our favorite Port Huron wedding venue: Solitude Links. We first met the couple last autumn after the kind folks at Solitude recommended us. We have a relatively low-key 2024, but it’s really saying something when half of our booked weddings are at Solitude. We love it there and could wax poetically about the different hidden locations and best places to find the light all day long.

Lauren and Alex met in college. Alex was in Michigan for college and was playing college baseball. Lauren and Alex started dating during college and have been a unit navigating life together ever since. He has been integrated into her family because he was attending college out of state, and so he ended up spending school breaks with Lauren’s family often. Alex and his family all live in Northern California, and Lauren and Alex’s favorite things are visiting the area and cheering on the Niners. We loved seeing their engagement photos that they took just outside the scenic area that Alex grew up in. Lauren’s family is originally from Toronto, so they also love the Blue Jays; Lauren’s bachelorette party was even in Toronto so it’s also a special place for her and her loved ones.

When we think back to their wedding day as an “outsider” and observer and watching it all through a lens (literally)- the overwhelming theme for us that stood out was family. Lauren’s two sisters were her maids of honor and both gave amazing speeches. Alex’s brother in law was his best man, and their entire wedding party had a ton of couples in it (4) that all stood up there as a family of love and support. By the end of the day, we felt like we knew everyone too; it was such a welcoming crew and the love was evident and obvious everywhere we turned.

We got to explore the grounds for the most beautiful sunset at Solitude with Alex and Lauren, and loved how their portrait session photos turned out with the sunset skies on full display.
