Marlie and Josh met at Rattle Run Farms when they were teenagers. Marlie rode horses, but also worked there quite often. Josh came from New York to work there for the summer. They met while unloading hay & iykyk it’s not easy work.  Since then, it’s been their special place and they love it. On June 22nd, 2024, Marlie & Josh were married on the hottest day on the entire planet earth-or at least for here in Michigan. The heat didn’t even matter because we loved being their Rattle Run Farms Wedding photographer team.

Marlie and Josh have weathered lots of storms together, from being apart when Josh graduated from Purdue, to moving to a couple different states. In fact, they moved to a new state the day after the wedding & we hope eastern Ohio is treating them well. Their love and adoration was so obvious to everyone who was there to celebrate their special wedding day with them. Marlie looked amazing in her elegant and satin finished dress.

Before the ceremony, we got to meet Marlie’s first love-her horse. It was important enough to mention at our consultation & not to brag but it basically sealed the deal for us to become their wedding photographers. Courtney has a horse farm and grew up riding and showing so they bonded over a lifestyle not everyone would understand. Josh was a little jealous that we also got to meet their dog, who was ecstatic to see Marlie before the ceremony. We love all the pets, of any size!

Rattle Run Farms in Michigan was their wedding venue, and besides the sentimental element, it looked gorgeous too. Sue & Sarah ran around like crazy making sure everything was perfect for Marlie & Josh. We were very impressed by their planning skills.  It was a beautiful ceremony, right next to the lake,  with some funny speeches during the reception under a big tent with delicious food and flowing drinks. Everyone danced a lot once the sun went down, and you could really feel how happy Marlie and Josh were. It was a simple but elegant wedding at a beautiful farm – a perfect start to their life together.

We’ve never done a wedding at Rattle Run Farms before, but I’ve quickly learned through working with Courtney that the horse community is (not so) small, and devoted. They greet each other like old friends, and even though their kids compete against each other all season at horse shows they seem to have a ton of fun. It was so fun to witness, and since Courtney grew up in this community and knew the owners, it felt like we were stepping onto a family property that we’ve shot at 100 times with familiarity, but looking and exploring through the lens of a wedding photographer team.
