Fun fact: we try to take on at least one destination or travel wedding per year. It makes us excited to travel to new locations, appeases our wunderlust a tad, and we both look forward to hilarious road trip antics on car drives. This year we were thrilled to have two out of area spots: Holland Michigan and then last weekend when we were a Gaylord Wedding Photographer team for Amanda and Gary. We traveled about 3 hours up north and spent the day documenting their Soujourn Lakeside Resort wedding.

We first met Amanda about 6 months ago when she met up with Courtney at our favorite local coffee shop for consults: Cafe Nola. It was close to her home (and ours, too!) and we loved meeting her and hearing about her longterm relationship with Gary, and their two daughters. We actually ended up getting drinks one night later that week at the Dorsey House just for fun, too.

They chose Soujourn Lakeside Resort for it’s “up north feel” and as soon as we drove on the property, we understood the assignment. It felt like a fancy old campground in the Catskills, where New York City elite would summer. Quaint- yet luxurious. Their wedding day was the most beautiful Michigan day ever- partially cloudy but with bright blue skies and fluffy clouds, and high 60’s. It felt wonderful after all those super hot days with no rain in July. Their wedding was intimate and sweet. Their two daughters were their entire wedding party, and family was a large emphasis to them. Their reception was in the lodge area, and they got married out on the beautiful lake. We had a wonderful time exploring the property and documenting their unique love story.
