Covid wedding Port Huron

I will never forgot meeting Ceil for the first time inside one of our favorite Downtown Port Huron coffee shops, The Exquisite Corpse. She met us along with her daughter in law and maid of honor, Julie. We had a latte, shook hands goodbye, and were excited to photograph her upcoming July wedding at Solitude Links. That date was March 11th, and if I would have known that that was the last time I’d leisurely sit in a coffee shop and look around and see the full smiling faces of people laughing and talking, I’d like to think I would have soaked it all in a bit more, because two days later I got a phone call at 6:00am that school was cancelled for the next two weeks (sigh. two weeks. Remember that?) I sent Ceil over her contract that day, and specifically remember thinking “I’m glad this will have all blown over at the end of July.” Courtney and I discussed the 4H Fair that was scheduled to happen the week leading up to Ceil’s wedding date, and chatted about back up plans in case one of her girl’s had a horse show that day. Flash forward to 4 months later, and we were able to finally photograph Ceil and John’s special day, Covid wedding style, and who could have ever guessed in March what that would have looked like. (Spoiler: it was stunning and so special and unique.)

We seriously give Covid couples so much credit. Ceil’s wedding arrangements changed too many times to count. Two weeks before the big day, a new executive order prohibited gatherings indoors of more than 10, so Jenn at Solitude Links busted her tail and whipped up a beautiful outdoors tent that can legally accommodate up to 100 guests. Ceil and John’s wedding went from 100 guests down to around 30-40 at the reception, and their indoors church religious ceremony only had very close family, and everyone had to wear masks the entire time inside; including the bride and groom.

But the best part is that love was celebrated. It was celebrated safely, legally, it was on display. Their first dance was so beautiful, and there was love and emotion everywhere, from overjoyed kids to supportive friends. We hope you enjoy this small glimpse into Ceil and John’s special Covid Wedding. Just because states are shut down, that doesn’t mean that your love story has to take a pause, too. If you’re getting married and looking for a photography team that’s ready to roll with the crazy punches that this new decade has thrown us 8 months in already, we’d love to chat.
