Port Huron Intimate Wedding | Kristen & Dominic
Kristen and Dominic were one of our first 2020 weddings that we booked back in March of 2019. They both live in the Grand Rapids area, and loved Solitude Links and found us because of our website and past work done there. We met up at our old Port Huron photography studio (womp womp. We miss that place.) and got to know each other a bit. We learned that they love to travel, and met while being lifeguards at the city pool together. And most of all? We learned and saw just how much they love each other; that was obvious right from the start. Their Port Huron intimate wedding ended up being so beautiful and special, but it wasn’t an easy road getting there, that’s for sure. As we started getting deeper into the absolute perfect storm that 2020 has been, we (obviously) started communicating with our booked couples a lot more than usual. We remember when we first emailed everyone in April, and thinking to ourselves “this will surely be done by mid-July for Kristen and Dominic’s date.” Well, corona fooled us all. It’s still very much around, and while it feels like the restrictions have lifted a bit, they really haven’t lifted all that much for weddings and events. The governor’s order specifies weddings as a max indoor attendance of 10 people- total. And 100 people outdoors. As their date got closer, they ended up reducing their guest list drastically, and switched from the large banquet hall (which now is a tent outdoors instead of the hall) and moved their smaller wedding to the lodge vacation rental that is on the Solitude Links property. The lodge is owned by Kathy and her husband. Kathy used to manage all the weddings at Solitude Links (before Jenn started) and now sticks with the lodge only.
The lodge is beautiful and massive. It has over 9,000 square feet, sleeps 20+ people, and feels like a mountain mansion. It was easily able to accommodate Kristen and Dominic’s intimate family group in the backyard area and patio for their ceremony, as well as their reception. Being a preferred vendor at Solitude also has it’s perks; they let us borrow a couple golf carts to explore and do some couple portraits after their ceremony, too, for our signature Solitude Links wedding photography look. Kristen and Dominic also are planning a 2021 reception-only for their large friend group to come celebrate and party with them on their 1 year anniversary.
We had an amazing time photographing their Port Huron intimate wedding and love the heart and spirit of all our beautiful covid brides we’ve had. If you’re planning a wedding, we would love to chat with you and get to know your unique story!
